The hex color edit does not work as expected

In the property editor there are two fields related to colors.
The color edit where one can choose a color and a textfield where one can set a color via hex code.
Setting the color via the hex edit does not work as expected reliably.

To reproduce:
Create a rectangle item
Change the color to green for example and set a keyframe.
Move the playhead to a different frame and change the color to blue by entering the value #0000ff into the hex field and pressing enter.

One would expect that both color fields (in the property editor and timeline) as well as the rectangle have the same color (blue).
This does not seem to be guaranteed. Sometimes the color edit in the property editor is changed to the correct value but not the edit int the timeline or the rectangle itself.
Note that it sometimes seems to work fine.

Inserting a keyframe in this state does not seem to have an effect then
