Autoscrolling triggered by drag move events has bad usability

    XMLWordPrintable

Details

    • macOS

    Description

Dragging an item to the edge of the viewport triggers an autoscrolling of the item view. The problem is that the feature is not as easy to use as it should be. The area that triggers the feature is narrow and there seems to be some inconsistency in how easy it is to hit the sweet spot. The feature's usability is weak on macOS. In native apps, such as Finder and Calendar, autoscrolling is smoother to use.

      Steps to reproduce:

      • Run the sample attached (on macOS).
      • Use your mouse to grab a table item.
      • Drag the item to the bottom of the viewport to trigger autoscrolling.
EXPECTED: The maneuver should be intuitive and easy.
ACTUAL: The maneuver most likely requires searching and aiming for the sweet spot.
