qmlpreview is reloading the window unexpectedly

Using qmlpreview on a tiling window manager like i3wm results in the warning "preview position is out of screen" as the window is unexpectedly reloaded. The behavior that I would expect is for the window to stay in-place if a child component residing in another file is modified.
