Rename symbol under cursor doesn't exit if Esc key is pressed

If a user is using FakeVim and runs "Rename symbol under cursor", pressing the Esc key won't exit the "Rename symbol under cursor" mode and leaves it in an awkward state. For example, pressing the Enter key will move the cursor to the next line.
