configure: error messages when reconfiguring in shadow build dir

    Description

      Running config.status after pulling today, I get this:

      % ./config.status && make
      Preparing build tree...
      rm: /Volumes/Users/XXX/src/4.7r/mkspecs/features: is a directory
      ln: /Volumes/Users/XXX/src/4.7r/mkspecs/features: File exists

      Commit aff888a3e7f3d9ee2c5611c2dd5c0ff1693752c6 introduced this error message.
