login info not visible in header if browser window is too narrow

the width of the green background of the header seems to (attempt to) follow the browser width instead of the entire contents. leads to elements being unhelpfully white on white, which becomes visible when the view is scolled to the right.

workarounds:

• make the window wide enough
• or select the "empty space"
