    Description

I can imagine that EffectMaker could be used to make writing basic shaders easier and faster.

However, in most projects there's anyway a need to apply custom shaders specific to the customer's needs. It's not possible to predict all the needs during EffectMaker development, but often they're more sophisticated and unique.

In many cases the basic effects from EffectMaker will need to be mixed with customer-specific ones.

      It'd make sense to:

      • get the plain-text code of shaders generated from the EffectMaker and extend it with custom ones on the developers team side.

This solves the issue on the development side. A developer would be able to receive the shader code and extend it with his custom code placed e.g. in between of the effects generated by the EffectMaker. This however excludes the role of a designer from the further process. This probably would lead to developers writing everything on their own, not using the EffectMaker at all.

      or

      • import custom effects/shaders to the EffectMaker in order to extend the tool that will be used by a designer.

A developer would write an effect shader (using a pre-defined template compatible with the EffectMaker) that could be imported to the EffectMaker. A designer would be able to adjust the parameters defined by a developer and run everything on his side.

      or maybe something else?

At the moment, I don't see any way to do that with the current version of the EffectMaker.
