Steps:

• Add water node
• Click on layers field
• Change the number of layers by typing on keyboard. Do not press enter.
• Click on another control

-> There is no change in the effect. Saving effect at this point doesn't save the value currently entered into the field. Only way to commit manually entered value is to hit enter before changing focus. Other views with similar property fields commit the field value on focus out.
