When group selection mode is active in 3D edit view, clicking on child model doesn't select the parent model if the parent model is also the scene root

Set up two scenes, one with Node (Group) root item and a cube and a sphere. The sphere should be a child of the cube. The other scene should have a cube Model as root item and a sphere as a child. Change both scenes into group selection mode (hotkey Q on 3D edit view).

Then click on each of the cubes and spheres on 3D edit view. The expected result is that in all cases, the cube should be selected. However, in the case where the cube is also the scene root, it is not selected.
