When I try to delete items from timeline, selecting the item and pressing delete deletes the actual component from the scene graphs, instead of just deleting it from the animation. After deleting the item, the keyframes still remain on the timeline. The same thing happens in transition editor and timeline editor.

This is really strange functionality for anyone that has done animations on other tools. The expected behaviour that deleting an item from the timeline animation should just delete it from the timeline, not from the actual project.
