make components open from nav icon

    Description

      It would be great to add a mouse area to the icons in the navigator that you can click on to open that component directly.

      We should consider if a hover state is needed on the icon (unfortunately not yet provided from the icon font) but for now we could also just introduce the click to open functionality.
