Dragging basic items to scene sometimes drags wrong item

If you click on the basic item list and then drag the clicked item, the correct item is dragged. However, if you press mouse over a new item and drag that without first clicking on it, the previously selected item will be dragged instead. Press and drag will only work for the first item you drag.
