At the moment the slide selector is basically a glorified tab selector where the only added value with the graphical look comes from the green coloring of the master slide. It wastes a lot of screen space and in current form could be replaced with simple tab view (with perhaps green highlight used for master slide tab).

Another option is to minimize the used space and add visual rendering of the slide to add more value to the use of space.
