If you rename an object so that it has a same element path as some other object in the presentation, you get the following dialog:

Rename Object Error
The object name is duplicated under its parent, do you want to make it unique?
Yes/No

It doesn't matter whether you choose 'yes' or 'no', it will not change the object name. It should make the name unique when selecting 'yes'.

Non-unique element paths make data inputs work unreliably, as only one of the components with the same element path can be set attributes on.
