Volume element does not work when using a custom gst pipeline in MediaPlayer

If you set a video source with a custom gst pipeline like:

source: "gst-pipeline: playbin uri=<uri> audio-sink=pulsesink video-sink=qtvideosink"

or similar the volume element does not work ie. setting the volume or muting the playback does not work.
