For Squish GUI Tester it is a general comfort feature to highlight objects on the screen in various cases (when hovering the mouse over an object while picking, when selecting an object in the "Application Object" view, when using the test script function highlightObject().

But this functionality is not yet available when using EGLFS, because Squish GUI Tester implements this via an additional window that is shown "always on top".

Ideas on suitable alternative approaches or functionality to allow Squish to render directly on the screen would be welcomed.
