      Currently the Qt font system supports sub-pixel positioning only on Mac OS X, where this is the platform default. In theory this is possible with FreeType and in Windows versions that support the DirectWrite API.

      Research how sub-pixel positioning can be implemented and exposed as cross-platform API in Qt, and implement support for it in FreeType.
