Description
The posting on https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/145366/does-vanilla-debian-support-raspberry-pi-5 provides a good summary of the situation:
- Debian 11 will never be supported on RPi 5
- Debian 12 intends to do so, but there are no images yet (as of March 5, 2024)
Instead, Unbuntu 23.10 is listed in the Raspberry Pi Imager https://www.raspberrypi.com/software/.
The listed "Raspberry Pi Desktop" (https://www.raspberrypi.com/software/operating-systems/#raspberry-pi-desktop) is based on Debian 11 but is 32bit only and is last updated on July 2022
I strongly suggest to switch to Ubuntu for at least the initial, Technology Preview phase
