Specifically for variable fonts, the applicationFontFamilies() function may contain a list of multiple identical families for a single font, one per unique style.

This can be reproduced with the testfont_variable.ttf under tests in qtbase. This returns three families on Windows and two on macOS, when there is only a single unique family.
