textHeight or contentHeight would be better - the TextEdit API has no notion of painted, which in any case is a more imperative QPainter concept. Would be better to use text or content.
paintedHeight gives also the false impression that it represent only the visible part of the text, while it's actually reporting (and documented to report) the full height of the content
