In crystal test program (attached), works fine on simulator, but on N9 two oddities are observed:
      1. some odd black spots during rendering
      2. when (in an attempt to fix (1)) I reduced the level of detail (in main.qml / sphereMesh) from its default, 5, all atoms were rendered using the SodiumShader (instead of half of them being chlorine).

It turns out that (2) happens when you increase the LOD, ie anything other than the default. Also, (2) happens on simulator as well as on N9.

It turns out that the blackspots in rendering on N9 disappear with LOD of 2 (but not 3).
