QTextEdit should provide the possibility to disable the undo/redo functionality without clearing the undo/redo history. This would be useful when creating functionality where it’s needed to highlight lines in QTextEdit to improve readability (e.g. debugger/IDE editor). If the highlighting is done using QTextBlockFormat it will currently be added to the undo/redo history, confusing the real edit operations.
