synqt fails with msys git Perl 5.8.8 due to // operator

      I'm no Perl aficionado, but can the double-slash on line 1195 be replaced by something "less modern"? It looks like the only place it is used.

      As the standard "Git for Windows" distribution comes with Perl, it would be nice to use it, even if it is old and slow.
