try to persist / re-use SSL session IDs

      We could just try to re-use session IDs. If the server still has it cached, we can re-use it; if not, it will (hopefully) just send us a new one.
      Need to investigate whether there is a real world benefit, e.g. Apache's default session life time is 5 minutes.
