Menu: highlight on mouse over menu item text

I have a menu with items where its texts have different lengths. Menu items have small padding on left and no on right. When I move mouse over this padding all is fine and highlight rectangle appears. But, if I move mouse over text it doesn't (It does but only when mouse pointer is between menu items). It seems that text label doesn't throw event to its parents.

Because menu items' texts have different lengths I have some area on the right without text. If I move mouse there, everything seems to be OK.
