Sometimes this assert triggers; I suspect it's related to calling update() from inside paint() or paintEvent(). No reliable isolated code available - this happens in our (somewhat complex) GUI now and again with no special action triggering it.

Investigating this bug boils down to reading code and trying to trigger the assert through an isolated test case.
