Unable to play movies in Qt videowidget example in Qt 5.6.0 Windows

I have installed qt-opensource-windows-x86-msvc2013_64-5.6.0.exe on Windows 8.1, and built this example using the QtCreator 3.6.1 shipped with Qt5.6.0:

Qt\Qt5.6.0\Examples\Qt-5.6\qtmultimedia\multimediawidgets\videowidget

I have tried playing several movies but none are not working.

The videowidget window just shows an empty Error string below the playback widget, and no video output.

I have verified that the same movie files do successfully play in the same example from Qt5.5.1 on the same computer.

Debugging in QtCreator, I see this on the output:

DirectShowPlayerService::doRender: Unresolved error code 80040266

I have also used windeployqt.exe on the built executable to ensure I have all dependencies, but with no success.

I have noticed that the wmfengine mediaservice plugin is no longer shipped in the Qt 5.6.0 installer (it is present in Qt5.5.1). Is that relevant here? I have not found any documentation on this difference online yet.
