GTK has done this on Wayland: https://blogs.gnome.org/carlosg/2016/04/06/gtk-wayland-tablet-support-is-merged/ and I've thought for years that we should support multi-pointer X11 too. But it will be a lot of work because it implies multiple foci for text input too.
