cannot select network location in gtk3 file dialog

Mounted network shares don’t appear in a native gtk3 file dialog. (in contrast to e.g. gedit, a lot of other programs still use gtk2 dialogs where this option is also available)
Since the non-native dialogs also don’t provide this option it’s impossible to select files from network locations on a gtk3 system.
