In my case, I try to read files with QFileDialog.getOpenFileNamesAndFilter() that exceed 255 characters. You wrote (kai Kohne) there is a workaround. Which one ?

FYI, I have found the following workaround to overpass 255 char. limitation in python scripting here (see answer 1) : https://stackoverflow.com/questions/36219317/pathname-too-long-to-open/36237176 . May this information help you to fix the problem.
