It seems like this is really a Chrome / Chromium issue, but since QtWebEngine bundles Chromium it's also affected: https://lifehacker.com/how-to-fix-chromes-checkboxes-and-buttons-in-macos-moja-1827398550
FWIW, I don't see the issue in Chrome (Version 69.0.3497.100) on my system, so it's likely this could be fixed either by updating Chromium or harvesting some patches for older releases.
