Clicking an hyperlink that triggers an Internet Explorer Popup blocks some events/signals

I have a text area that displays html containing a mailto: hyperlink. If I click it, i arrive to an Internet Explorer popup saying that there is no mail client configured. I can keep using my app with the popup open, since qt does not block on opening links which is normal)
But if i (try to) quit my application with the popup still open, the whole qt interface stays displayed and responsive, while other data of my project has started destroying itself for the app exit. Qt actions that trigger actions on destroyed objects end up crasing after this.
