Clean up possible dead "configure features" code

In the initial workshop a complex feature system was implemented.
Some parts of it were rewritten not to be used, in order to decrease the configuration time significantly (something like from 2 minutes to 20 seconds).

As a result there might be some dead code around that should be removed.
