QWebEnginePage javascript form submit() intermittently working

We load an external HTML page within QWebEngineView, it contains 1 form and a single javascript function that is fired when the window is ready.  The function is called but it contains:

document.forms[0].submit();

which does not always submit the form and leave the page empty.
