QMenu::item with icon styling is wrong

The icon in the menu item with an icon is supposed to replace the "tick" check indicator, when an icon is set. This is the case when editing the menus in Qt Creator. However, once the application is run, the icon is displayed under the text for the menu with a stylesheet and the "tick" appears. The menu without a stylesheet is correct.

This is the case with Qt 5.13 and Qt 5.12.4. It however, works as expected with Qt 5.9.0 and 5.6.2
