Sometimes different behavior based on the connected network is needed. For example, application could use different settings/profile when it is on work and on home network.

There is an interface for getting IP and netmask from network interfaces, but this is not reliable way as the addresses could be identical in different networks.

Addition of currently connected SSID for wifi networks would be helpful in situations where an application should have different behavior whether it is connected to a specific network or not.
