    Description

When an iOS Xcode project is generated by running qmake on an example .pro file, qmake creates / bundles a default launch screen story board.

This ensures that the launched app uses the whole screen space rather than just a small rectangle in the middle.

It probably changes some other things as well, but the above is the most immediate difference.
