Since it's possible to provoke painting glitches on any system by running widget applications (for example: dragdroprobot) with the QT_SCALE_FACTOR environment variable set to a fractional value, it should be possible to reproduce the steps that lead reliably to such glitches using a unit test that draws into a raster surface.
