Step into / Step over to start debugging work differently compared to gdb

Steps to reproduce:

• create a plain C++ or C project
• switch to Debug view
• hit 'Step into' or 'Step over'

Current behavior:

• Debugger starts but does not stop when entering main()

Expected behavior:

• Debugger stops at main() as it's done for gdb debugging
