Qt creator on Ubuntu trusty (14.04) cannot type Chinese characters

      I cannot type any Chinese characters into Qt Creator editor. I can only copy and paste some of the Chinese characters into it. This also happens to the "linguist" utility for localization. I can type in Chinese characters in any of the other editors without any problems on Ubuntu trusty 14.04
