I don't know if this is technically feasible, but if it's simple, it would be nice-to-have a warning when you try to run a Qt application on an emulator where the "Use Host GPU" option is off. This is off by default when creating new AVDs with the AVD Manager, and it's not very clear from the dialog box that leaving it unticked will actually disable OpenGL support.
