Documentation on how to create qml plugins and use them in Qt Quick Designer is incomplete and dispersed

The documentation does not clearly articulate the steps one has to take in order to create a qml plugin that is usable/visible in Qt Quick Designer. Especially the instructions on how to create .metainfo file are lacking. Also, the parameters that can be used with qmlplugindump should be described.
Overall, relevant information is scattered across multiple documents and the main level document (http://doc.qt.io/qtcreator/creator-qml-modules-with-plugins.html) could do a better job pulling things together.
