Creation of build directories, particularly for shadow builds, is desirable. See linked gerrit for suggested implementation.

My recommendation is only to create directories under specific circumstances:

• When the directory is not present the context menu of a PathChooser changes from "Show Containing Folder" and "Open Terminal Here" to "Create Path"
• When the user confirms the configuration of the targets of a fresh project
