as a developer, i want to easily create custom variable renderings in the vars panel

I would like to be able to create a customized template for a variable type, and have that variable type always render (resolve) using that template.

i want to do this directly in the variables panel, and have the results show up in the variables panel

i want this template to be remembered between runs, and applied to all variables of that type

i want the template system to be flexible enough to handle the same things that Xcode can handle with its "Edit Summary Format..." function
