New plugin/extension manager UI
Description
What is the benefit? Why is this valuable?
Current plugin manager (About plugins) is not easy for users to find. Also if the amount of plugins will be increasing, we would need to reconsider meaningful grouping and plugin manager UI that can use more screen estate.
What are common use cases?
- User opens plugin manager to extend Qt Creator functionality
- In the manager, user wants to easily search for the plugins with either name or plugin group (e.g. C++, Utilities)
- In the manager, user should see description and usage help for the plugin (with screenshots or other images)
- In the manager, it should be considered that plugins can be downloaded / updated independently without updating Qt Creator
Technical information
- UI Design should be done first and tested with users
- Consider also Qt Design Studio as an extension on top of Qt Creator
- Consider also if Qt kits (Qt Framework) would be installed directly from Qt Creator
