It would be nice to have the option to use an externally managed android toolchain (sdk, ndk, etc. installed, for example, with your distro's package manager). This would require adding a "Use external SDK" button to the "SDKs" settings page, which disables the sdk-manager and the requirement, that the sdk directory is writeable.
