    Description

A spell checker is an essential feature for any serious code editor — and even more so for a full-featured IDE like Qt Creator. For years, Qt Creator has relied on a third-party volunteer (CJCombrink) to provide this functionality through an external plugin. However, with this plugin no longer actively maintained or its author unavailable, Qt Creator currently lacks a reliable way to support spell checking.

This is a core usability feature, especially valuable when editing comments, documentation, and strings. Its absence significantly detracts from the professional quality of the tool.

We strongly urge the Qt Creator team to implement a built-in spell checker as a native, maintained part of the IDE. Compared to features like generative AI integration, a spell checker offers a much more practical benefit to the daily workflow of developers.

      Benefits:

      • Improves code readability and professionalism
      • Assists non-native English speakers
      • Supports quality documentation and comments directly within the IDE
      • Reduces reliance on unmaintained external tools
