Maintenance tool updates

I'd like to propose checking updates automatically in the background. When the maintenance tool says "no updates available", it was a bit silly to offer an option to "update components" in the first place. Could the tool just check updates in the background and offer to apply them if available? Meanwhile, show a busy progress bar in the corner or something to indicate that updates are being checked. This would lead to much better UX and would be more in line with modern user interfaces and update management in general.
