GUI freezes while typing into the component search bar

This happens when all repository categories are selected, and the first letter for the search is entered. The freeze may some times take over ten seconds, blocking any further user input. We should check if there are ways to make the filtering faster or unblock the GUI some other way and show that progress is being done in the background.
