qt_update_submodules is not working anymore

    Description

      The submodule update bot stopped working after https://codereview.qt-project.org/41549 was merged.

      Some attempts have been made in order to get this working again without success (https://codereview.qt-project.org/55439 https://codereview.qt-project.org/55416).

      Whoever feels responsible for that script, please fix it asap since is holding back automatic updates of qt5.git (which is used to create the release packages)

      My personal suggestion is to revert https://codereview.qt-project.org/41549
